On November 25, Mooretown’s Fire and Natural Resources Departments kicked off our recently awarded by returning beneficial fire to 10 acres of brush, grass, and dead and downed fuels on the Mooretown Tribal Cultural Landscape. The project, which includes prescribed fire on 345 acres, will address the intense brush regrowth after the North Complex Fire and increase forest health and resilience. This project is part of a longer-term effort to conduct prescribed fire regularly on Mooretown’s ancestral lands to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk and support a fire-adapted forest ecosystem that is vital to plants, animals, and local community resilience. We will continue to share updates about this exciting effort here in the coming months.
